Steve’s news – SCOTT JOPLIN FESTIVAL write up and NOVEMBER GERMANY TOUR

Loading

Steve recently returned from the Scott Joplin International Ragtime Festival in Sedalia, Missouri where he had the honour of playing, among the greats of the ragtime world. He was more than pleasantly surprised to find this write up from the Scott Joplin International Ragtime Foundation.

“Fingerstyle Guitar Meets the Syncopated Spirit of Ragtime

Steve Hicks is a master of acoustic fingerstyle guitar whose artistry bridges the worlds of classical technique, folk traditions and early American Ragtime. With precision, warmth and a deep musical sensibility. Steve brings new life to the intricate melodies and syncopated rhythms that defined the ragtime genre – translating piano masterpieces to the strings with dazzling results.

Hailing from England, Steve has captivated audiences across Europe and the United States with his virtuosic performances and thoughtful arrangements. His musical journey spans a wide range of influences – from 19th century parlor music and Celtic folk to the ragtime and blues traditions of early 20th-century America. This eclectic background gives his playing a richness and depth that connects across styles and eras.

Steve is especially admired for his ability to adapt ragtime piano works for solo guitar, capturing their rhythmic drive and harmonic complexity with grace and ingenuity. His arrangements honor the spirit of Scott Joplin, Joseph Lamb and James Scott, while showcasing the expressive possibilities of the guitar.

A returning favorite at the Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival, Steve brings a unique voice to the celebration of America’s Musical Heritage. His performances are engaging, elegant and aways a highlight – offering audiences a fresh perspective on ragtime that is both intimate and masterful.

We are thrilled to welcome Steve Hicks back to Sedalia, where his talent and love for the music continue to inspire and delight.”

Steve Hicks returns to Germany for The International Guitar Night concert tour 2025.

Steve writes:

In November 2025, I will return to Germany for Peter Finger’s ‘International Guitar Night’ concert tour. Beginning 16th November there will be 11 concerts all over Germany. This year’s international line up of guitarists will feature Peter Finger (Germany) Jacques Stotzem (Belgium) Ian Melrose (Scotland) Dylan Fowler (Wales) Steve Hicks (UK). We will all play solo and at the end of the night play together.

The International Guitar Night is headed and organised by Peter Finger, founder and owner of Acoustic Music Records in Osnabruck Germany. In his own right, Peter is a remarkable fingerstyle guitarist and composer with a long career as a performer and recording artist.  For this concert tour I am delighted to be invited once again and 2025 will mark the 5th time for me to be on the International Guitar Night concert tour. It will be an honour and privilege to perform for my German audiences and to be sharing the concert stage with such wonderful musicians Peter Finger, Jacques Stotzem, Ian Melrose and Dylan Fowler.
